China – Lung Ching
Grown on the hillsides of Zhejiang province, Lung Ching tea is an all-natural handcrafted wonder of the tea world. Grown in a region known for thick mist and fog, the fresh leaf is plucked in early spring and immediately pan-fired to lock in freshness. During firing, the leaves are pressed by the heel of the hand into large woks, giving the tea its distinctive, flattish shape.
Also known as Dragonwell, Lung Ching gets its colloquial name from the legend of a dragon that lived in a spring not far from Hangzhou, Zhejiang’s capital. According to the tale, the dragon brought rain during a season of intense drought, saving the city. In honor of the dragon, local tea growers named their tea after the beast and the rest is history.
