China – Gunpowder style

Legend has it that the name Gunpowder was coined by a young English tea clerk who thought the tiny, rolled green balls he received in a shipment looked like gunpowder. To produce gunpowder teas, fresh leaf is selected for quality, size and style, then rolled into very tight, small, nugget-shaped pellets that allow the tea to keep longer than many other teas.

Interestingly, Chinese gunpowders have found great favor in Morocco, where they are boiled with mint and enjoyed with a dash of sugar. We’re confident that our selection of Chinese gunpowders ranks among the world’s best.

The leaves used to produce Pinhead Gunpowder are plucked exclusively in the months of April and May when quality peaks. These are steamed and tightly rolled in a time-honored process to produce one of the finest gunpowders available anywhere.
