Assam
The world's finest single estate Assams.
Assam’s gardens sit at a relatively low altitude in the foothills
of the Himalayas. A natural greenhouse effect combined with
deep sandy loam soil produces teas with a thick full-bodied character
and deep notes of rich malt. Peak quality teas are produced
during the 2nd flush. (June) We source these on an annual basis.
Our Assam teas are certified by the Ethical Tea Partnership. Read more here!
Darjeeling
Darjeelings are often referred to as the Champagne of Teas.
One of the tea world’s most picturesque growing regions,
Darjeeling sits in the Shiwalak Hills on the lower range of the
Himalayas. The cool wet conditions produce teas that are light
liquoring with an origin specific muscatel character.
Metropolitan sells 100% pure Darjeelings exclusively. (The name Darjeeling is a controlled appellation much like Champagne in France.) As such, only 100% pure teas can carry the Darjeeling name.
Sikkim
Mountain teas hinting at peach and almond. Sikkim,
India’s least populated state produces teas that are similar
in character to Darjeelings but with a unique regional nuance.
Nilgiri
The Nilgiri growing region in Southern India features high altitude
estates with exceptionally rich soil. Teas produced there
tend to have a very bright cup and distinctive floral character.
Nepal
Rare teas from the mountain kingdom. The
State of Nepal produces some exceptional black teas that share
the muscatel character of top Darjeelings.
